WEMBLEY NATIONAL STADIUMSCHOOSE ISIS |

Immediately prior to the opening of the new Wembley National Stadium, WNSL were to purchase a large number of Motorola MC5040 terminals, and ancillary hardware for use as the emergency ticketing system.
To be used in the event the main ticket scanning system had failed in some way, it would facilitate the scanning and recording of tickets as visitors entered the stadium, preventing invalid or bogus tickets being used, and hence fraudulent entry to an event.
After being uploaded with the latest ticket database, the MC5040 would be transported to the relevant entry gate and attached to the inside wall of the operators booth at eye level.
To expedite the scanning task, the unit would be linked to a Motorola LS2208 laser scanner residing in a hands free stand.
When a valid ticket is scanned the display shows green, the operative allows the turnstile to rotate and the visitor gains entry. Conversely invalid tickets result in entry being refused.
However, a last minute hitch arose with this system. The wall mount for the Motorola MC5040, which had been proposed by the existing potential supplier, did not fit the unit when the required cable connection cup was attached, required to allow the use of the external scanner.
Motorola approached Isis Integration Limited with the problem.
Fervent activity ensued; By now timescales were very short due to the imminent opening of the new stadium. An England Under 21 International Friendly was to be the first event on 24th March 2007, the expected attendance was to be 55000.
In the space of three weeks, we designed a new plastic holder for the MC5040 that not only allowed its use with the cable cup, but also facilitated easy removal of the terminal from said cable cup, allowing its transport back to the central office for updating, whilst leaving the scanner and cables in the booth.
The complex design of the new holder, rapid mould production, and some long hours spent drilling the holders to accept the swivel wall mount, resulted in Isis fulfilling the brief completely.
Happily, it also resulted in the entire business for the terminals, scanners and connecting cables being awarded to Isis Integration Limited as a complete solution.
All the terminals, holders, scanners and bespoke connection cables were delivered and installed into the stadium during the week before it’s inauguration. The main system was unavailable and so this “back up” system was the mainstay of the entry security to our national stadium.
